Watch Out!

By Nikki Ray

meerkats on watch

Keep awake and watch and pray [constantly], that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Mark 14:38 (AMP)

There are days when I struggle to spend time with the Lord. There are days when I don’t feel like praying at all.  I’m beginning to realize that I’m not the only one who has this struggle at times.  I believe we all face those times as believers. It’s so easy to find ourselves being lulled to spiritual slumber by our comforts, entertainment, busy schedules, and other things. But the times we feel like praying the least are often the times we need to pray the most. So why is this so important?

I believe the answer is found in Mark 14:38. Keeping our spirits awake and spending time with the Lord in prayer keeps us from temptation. It protects us from falling prey to the enemy, who is like a lion seeking those he can devour. Prayer keeps us close to our Shepherd – Jesus.

And, the greatest part of all is that the Lord loves to hear from us, even when He knows we’re struggling! He eagerly waits, ready to hear from us – even if we’re yawning the entire time.
